Put on those dancin' shoes!
As I may have mentioned in either my profile or application to the PLB, I have a hobby. Yes Star Wars is one of them, but the one I am speaking of now is Swing dancing. FunFunFun:) Before starting college (this was my first year), I NEVER did ANY dancing. I was too busy with my violin (not, but it made a good excuse later on). But as I read my E-mail on Tuesday night, I saw something that caught my eye. "Swing Club, come and dance. No experience needed. We teach." Or at least it went SOMETHING like that.
Anyway. I went, tried, and fell in love (with the dance style...The guy came later;) And went when ever I could. Although it was once a week, I found my self going through the paces of some new move I had learned previously when I was waiting (made sure no one was around, because it looks awful funny with out a partner). Soon, another opportunity came up. There was going to be a international Dance Festival. What a perfect chance to show off. Well, the interest was VERY high. There ended up being 14 of us on stage doing a number choreographed by our club pres to the tune of "Go Daddy-O"
Although that was the only show we did. We gained MUCH popularity afterwards. Our numbers grew and it never lost its fun. And as the last meeting comes tonight, I know that I am going to be SO BORED over summer and most likely forget quite a bit of what I learned. But I intend to take steps to not let that happen. Which will most likely not involve lessons, but ... Actually, I have no idea what it will involve. Backing up, I will make every effort next year to continue, as there is a gig set up for the tenth anniversary Gala of the 1944 Hall opening (music Building), PLUS one of our members (treasurer) is planning a ballroom showcase next year, which I have every intention of participating in. Whether it be in Swing or something else.
One thing is for certain, IT'S GONNA BE TONS OF FUN!

I actually have a suggestion for you on how to keep up your skills. Look up your local Mormon church (www.mormon.org) and ask about "Young Adult Dances". Back in my day they held them once a week, usually rotating through 5 or 6 different locations in the Portland (Oregon) area. Granted, they don't just do swing, actually mostly pop stuff, but in my experience Mormons go crazy for swing. Request it, and they'll play it. There's my two cents.
Ummmm... I just found out that my group is thinking of setting up meeting over the summer, as most live in the area anyway.
Cool! So you're all set! Just can't let those skills go to waste, y'know?
Absolutely not.
